Modern Chinese Short Story: Tramp pride

In the park, a man was talking loudly, and many people crowded around him. The man is a painter. He told the public that he had created a new way of painting portraits.

“This painting method is very advanced and novel. It can be completed with only one finger. More importantly, at present, I am the only one who has mastered this painting method all over the world. It can be said that I am worthy of being the first.” the painter glanced at the people, showing a trace of disdain in his eyes and pride in his words.

Some people questioned the painter’s statement. Some people proposed to let the painter verify his own painting method on the spot and volunteered to be a model. The painter could not refuse, so he painted. However, the result is astonishing – the picture is in a mess. If you don’t look carefully, you can hardly see that it is a portrait. Facing the doubt, the painter argued: “anyway, I only use one finger. So far, I am the only one who has mastered this painting method… I am second to none in this regard…”

Although people shook their heads one after another, they could not refute it. The painter’s statement seemed to have no problem.

“I’m also the first,” said a tramp who had been sitting in the corner. “I can sleep on a single wooden bridge only 10 cm wide. I bet no one can do it. So I’m second to none.”

Everyone was silent. They really couldn’t do it. Of course, neither could the painter.

The tramp continued, “it’s actually very simple to show off. Try every means to dig out an ability, and then draw a range, so you can despise others at will within this range.”
